Winterthur - The Oskar Reinhart Collection ‘Am Römerholz’
This is one of the most significant private collections of the 20th century, located in the owner's former home. Outstanding old masters including work by Grünewald, L. Cranach the Elder, H. Holbein the Younger, P. Bruegel the Elder and Rubens, complemented by important 19th and early 20th century French paintings, in particular by the Impressionists, by David, Ingres, Géricault, Delacroix, Corot, Daumier, Courbet, Manet, Renoir, Cézanne, van Gogh, Picasso and others. The Geneva-based architect Maurice Turrettini built the Villa "Am Römerholz" in 1915 on an elevated site at the edge of the forest and added a picture gallery in 1925. It was renovated and extended by the Zurich architects Annette Gigon and Mike Guyer in 1996-98. The villa stands in a beautiful park with a stock of old trees and important sculptures by Renoir and Bourdelle. There is an attractive café with a terrace and view of the garden.
